Andy Robertson has given an injury update as he edges closer to a return to fitness for Liverpool.
The Reds have been missing their first-choice left-back since Robertson sustained a shoulder injury back in October.
Since then, Liverpool have also seen the 29-year-old’s back-up, Kostas Tsimikas, go down with a fitness issue of his own.
With Joe Gomez currently the sole senior option left standing, Reds supporters would love to see Robertson back. However, speaking about the Scotsman’s injury on Friday, Jurgen Klopp admitted that Robbo was still ‘not close’ to a return.
Now giving his take on things, Liverpool’s No.26 took to Instagram last night to offer hope that the Reds won’t be without him for too much longer.
“Happy New Year everyone!” Robertson wrote. “Hopefully back doing what I love very soon.”
Robertson hoping to be back soon
With Tsimikas going well, Liverpool hadn’t needed to especially rush Robertson back from his injury.
But as the Greek now faces a long spell on the side lines, things have become a little more desperate.
Gomez has so far done a smashing job playing on the wrong side. Even Robertson himself has been impressed. But the 26-year-old is not a natural on the left.
Consequently, the Reds have been linked with potentially dipping into the transfer market this month. Fulham’s Antonee Robinson has been mentioned as a target.

But with Robertson hopefully not set to miss too much longer, we don’t think that’s really on the table. Instead, Liverpool are simply going to have to ride things out with Gomez for the next month or so.
It must be strange for Robbo, who has been remarkably consistent in his fitness since joining in 2017.
Klopp has recently commented that the former Hull City defender is ‘annoyed’ with his inability to join in with training. As a boisterous and popular member of the squad, it must be weird for his teammates to be without him, too.
For their part, Liverpool have maintained a title challenge in Robertson’s absence. He’ll surely be desperate to get back out there and play his part in that. Hopefully soon indeed Robbo, hopefully soon.
