Liverpool on high alert after learning they can sign 20-year-old target for just £8m

Liverpool have been placed on ‘high alert’ after learning of a transfer target’s availability.

The Reds are going great guns just at the moment. Sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table, the season has been a total success so far.

Nevertheless, with January now upon us, there’s always room for a new addition or two. So far, it’s being billed as a quiet window for Liverpool. But as ever, the Reds will no doubt be attuned to any potential opportunities in the market.

And according to TeamTalk today, one such opportunity may have just presented itself. They claim that Liverpool are very much interested in making the most out of Federico Redondo’s ultra-low asking-price.

Having been doing well with Argentinos Juniors in his native Argentina, Redondo is said to have ‘caught the attention’ of Liverpool. Now, it’s reported that the 20-year-old can actually be bought for as low as £8m this January. This is claimed to have set alarm bells ringing at Anfield.

However, they’re reportedly not the only club who are eyeing a bargain here. Real Madrid and Manchester United are also claimed to be tailing Redondo and are keen to sign him up.

Liverpool eyeing Redondo bargain

Liverpool were previously linked with a move for Redondo back in November.

At that time, it looked as though the Reds were plotting to try and sign fellow holding midfielder Andre Trindade, of Fluminense.

With links to Andre now cooling though, perhaps Redondo could be seen as an alternative.

Certainly, if his asking-price really is this low, then there’s no real downside for Liverpool. Well, not in the sense of a monetary one anyway.

The one thing that signing Redondo up could do is put the future of Stefan Bajcetic into doubt. The Reds reportedly believe that Bajcetic is the man destined to play the No.6 role for them in the future.

Being a similar age, Redondo’s arrival could perhaps put a blocker on that pathway.

As a result, we can’t see Liverpool doing this, no matter how low the price. There’s also the fact that Wataru Endo is improving game on game to factor in. It’s arguable whether Jurgen Klopp now even needs another defensive midfielder.

Despite all of that though, we’d love to see Liverpool finally go out and get a young South American gem. Given who is father his – the great Fernando Redondo – there’s every chance Redondo Jnr is going to be a top player one day. Misgivings aside, why shouldn’t that be at Anfield.
