Liverpool are not planning to sign a defensive midfielder in the New Year, as they put their faith in Stefan Bajcetic.
The Reds’ need for a natural holding midfielder has been the topic of much conversation since the beginning of the season.
This has seen heavy links to the likes of Fluminense’s Andre Trindade. However, according to the Liverpool ECHO, Jurgen Klopp is set to ignore calls for him to bring in a new, specialist player in January.
Instead, it’s claimed that ‘Liverpool insiders’ see the manager as trying to clear a pathway for 19-year-old Bajcetic.
With those at Anfield reportedly ‘keen not to block the path’ of young Stefan, neither Andre nor anyone else will be signed in the winter window.
Liverpool put faith in Bajcetic
In fairness, you can’t argue too much with this stance, although many will.
The fact of the matter is that had Bajcetic been fit all season, Liverpool supporters would see that they do not need another addition.
It’s only because the Spaniard has barely played since March that Reds fans believe a new player needs to be brought in.
That might sound like a lot to put on Bajcetic. But thinking back to the former Celta Vigo youngster’s run in the team last season, and it’s clear that he has the potential to be a special player.
Klopp recently called Bajcetic ‘incredible’; it’s obvious that he and his Liverpool coaches are under the impression that they’ve found a gem.

If that’s Jurgen’s view, then who are we to argue. Again, everything we’ve seen of Stefan would suggest that he has the potential to be a starter for Liverpool in the very near future.
Once he returns from his injury nightmare, he’ll surely show that once again.
With seven more senior midfielders at the club, adding one more would only reduce the possibility of Bajcetic making that impact.
Granted, he hasn’t been able to show it this year and may need time to get up to speed when coming back, but in the long-term this is a good decision for Bajcetic and for Liverpool.
