Liverpool could be about to lose out on a transfer target to Paris Saint-Germain.
The Reds are being linked to a whole host of players ahead of the January transfer market, as they aim to combat Joel Matip’s season-ending injury.
One of those has been 20-year-old Sao Paulo defender Lucas Beraldo. Only last month Liverpool were actually reported as being the favourites to sign Beraldo in the New Year.
However, according to French journalist Santi Aouna’s update on X last night, that has now changed.
“PSG is confident of completing the arrival of Lucas Beraldo for 20+5M € bonus [around £22m],” says Aouna. “Close agreement between the parties. Possible medical examination next week.”
With the journalist also claiming that the French champions are in ‘advanced negotiations’ for fellow reported Liverpool target Gabriel Moscardo, it’s a bad update for the Reds.
Liverpool lose out on Beraldo
Several months ago, it had really looked as though Liverpool were finally getting to grips with the South American market.
As well as Beraldo and Moscardo, the Reds were heavily linked with Fluminense’s Andre Trindade, too.
But with the former pair seemingly bound for PSG and the latter on the verge of joining Fulham, Liverpool are set to miss out entirely.
At 20 and without European experience, maybe Beraldo was never the answer for the Reds, though.
He appears to have big potential, but Matip’s injury means that Liverpool may well need someone who can come in and perform straightaway.
Despite Sunday’s disappointing draw with Manchester United, the Reds are very much in a title race.
If they can identify the right player to be air-lifted in and help them on their way, they shouldn’t wait for the summer.
It remains to be seen whether Liverpool attempt to gate-crash PSG’s play to secure Beraldo. But if they don’t think the Brazilian is the right man for the job, then we’re fine if they don’t. Onto the next.
