Liverpool interested in signing £26m player viewed as one of the best talents in South America

Liverpool are one of the clubs taking a keen interest in Corinthians youngster Gabriel Moscardo.

The Reds have been linked with a number of talents from South America of late, with Fluminense’s Andre Trindade seemingly leading the pack.

However, following reports that Arsenal are now ‘scaring them off’ Andre, The Standard claim that Liverpool now want Moscardo.

The 18-year-old – who is reportedly viewed as ‘one of the hottest prospects in South America’ – is said to be available for £26m in January.

But Liverpool aren’t the only ones interested. In fact, it’s claimed that Chelsea are currently the club leading the race for the youngster, having had an £18m bid rejected in the summer.

Arsenal are reportedly in the mix too, with Barcelona and the Reds making up the four interested parties. With Corinthians having elections coming up on November 25th, it’s claimed that the Brazilian side will only discuss a possible transfer after this date.

Liverpool in for Moscardo

It seems to be in vogue at the moment for players to come directly from South America to the Premier League.

Liverpool are yet to really dip their toes into this relatively new market just yet, but the latest reports seem to be suggesting that they very much will be doing.

As well as Moscardo, Liverpool have also been linked with 20-year-old Argentinian midfielder Federico Redondo.

Furthermore, Sao Paulo centre-back Lucas Beraldo is another name being mentioned in terms of a January move to Anfield.

Obviously, Liverpool won’t get them all, but it feels as though if one is to arrive then it’ll be a midfielder.

Plenty of fans were keen for that midfielder to be Andre. But it seems like for whatever reason, the Reds aren’t willing to proceed further for the 22-year-old.

So, failing that, it seems fitting that they should go for one of the Fluminense man’s peers.

We should of course be careful weighing down such young players with such big expectations. But given that he’s already a starter for Corinthians at just 18, it’s a fair bet that Moscardo will develop into a real player. £26m is no price to pay for a talent like that.
