Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has admitted that he’s been shopping at Liverpool on the latest Football Manager game.

Griezmann is famed for being a big fan of the computer game, where you take charge of a team and simulate the managerial experience.

Now asked by ESPN whether he’s begun a career on this year’s edition, the 32-year-old said he had, with some surprising choices.

“Yes, [he’s managing] Blackburn. I’m in the Premier League in sixth place. The board are very happy, they want to renew my contract,” Griezmann explained.

Pushed on which players he’d brought to Ewood Park in the transfer market, the France international made a comment that’s sure to ignite some banter at the AXA Training Centre.

“A young right-back who was at Liverpool,” Griezmann replied. “He’s Scottish, but I can’t remember the name!”

Griezmann happy with Ramsay signing

The man in question is of course Liverpool’s young full-back Calvin Ramsay.

In fairness to Griezmann, you can forgive him a little for forgetting the 20-year-old’s name. Since his signing for the Reds 18-months ago, not much has been seen of Ramsay.

After a disastrous first year ruined by injury, the Scotland international isn’t faring too much better this time around either.

Having joined Preston North End on-loan at the start of the season, Ramsay has so far played just twice in 2023/24.

An injury right at the start of the campaign meant that the right-back had to wait until November to even make his debut.

Now seemingly fit, Ramsay hasn’t been able to break into Ryan Lowe’s play-off chasers. His last appearance came on the first of this month and is his only start to date.

Nevertheless, the former Aberdeen defender shouldn’t be written off. He’s still incredibly young and obviously has the talent to be a success at Liverpool. The key will be whether Ramsay can finally put his injuries to bed. Let’s hope he can.

As for Griezmann, he’s been in masterful form this season for Atletico Madrid. Even at 32, the World Cup winner is still one of the game’s most delightful players. If Ramsay gets wind of this, it’s a little feather in his cap and hopefully perhaps even a confidence boost.
