Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay has today made his first competitive appearance since January for loan club Preston North End.
The Scottish youth international was named in the Lilywhites’ U-21 XI that faced Accrington Stanley earlier today in the Lancashire Senior Cup.
Having not played any sort of football since January due to injury, today is a massive step in the right direction for Ramsay in his quest to become fit, with Championship football the next obvious step.
Liverpool signed the defender from Aberdeen last year, though injuries and fitness issues have kept Ramsay out from senior action for the majority of his time in England.
Lauded as an ‘exceptional’ talent by Jurgen Klopp, Ramsay’s potential is clear for everyone to see, and the defender getting minutes under his belt today is huge in the youngster returning to the first-team.
Ramsay will want to be starting for Preston soon

Having been out for the majority of the year, Ramsay will be itching to get his first proper taste of English football since moving down from Aberdeen last year.
The defender’s time south of Scotland has been nothing short of an injury hell, and at Preston, Ramsay could finally establish himself as the exciting talent every Liverpool fan knows the fullback is.
Indeed, it could still take some time for Ramsay to get to his best, but minutes today will be key in the defender’s return to action, with Championship football this year potentially on the cards.
