Liverpool coaches still believe that Calvin Ramsay can be a first-team player in the future.

Ramsay has had a torrid time since arriving from Aberdeen last summer. With injuries stopping his progress, the 20-year-old has made just two appearances for Liverpool.

Despite being signed for the senior squad, Ramsay was sent on-loan to Preston North End to get games under his belt this season. However, injury reared its head again and the Scotland international is yet to play for his new club.

Now though, the Liverpool ECHO report that that should hopefully soon change. With Ramsay on the comeback trail, they claim that he’s ‘on the verge’ of finally making his Preston debut.

With over six months of the season still to play, there’s plenty of time for the young right-back to make an impression in the Championship.

And according to the ECHO, Liverpool coaches expect that he will. It’s claimed that the coaching staff – as well as Jurgen Klopp – still rate Ramsay very highly. Having reportedly been seen as potentially the perfect Klopp full-back upon his signing, the youngster is seemingly still believed to be on that path.

Ramsay gets Liverpool backing

Liverpool and Preston fans alike will be hoping that Ramsay’s latest injury recovery is now a permanent one.

You really have to feel for the youngster, it’s been one thing after another over the past year-and-a-bit.

The most frustrating thing for Ramsay must be that the opportunities have been there at Liverpool. He was brought in as an understudy for Trent Alexander-Arnold and there was ample chance to play last season.

Had he been able to get on the pitch, you’d imagine that he’d now be cemented as Klopp’s back-up option for the Europa League and domestic cups.

In his absence, Conor Bradley has come to the fore, although the Northern Irishman’s own injury troubles have also robbed him of the chance to impress so far.

Should both Bradley and Ramsay get back up to speed in what’s left of the season, it’ll be interesting to see who holds the upper hand next summer.

That’s a battle for the future, though. For now, Ramsay needs to focus on getting fit and getting into the Preston team.

Knowing that he still has the backing of the Liverpool staff, he’ll be desperate to make an impact. Don’t let it slip, Calvin.
