Alexis Mac Allister may still be finding his feet a little at Liverpool, but there’s no doubt that he’ll be a great signing at Anfield.

The 24-year-old has been struggling slightly of late, culminating in a poor performance for Argentina last night. But with Liverpool going well so far this season, he’s been a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

It follows on from an excellent year with Brighton and Argentina, which made a move higher up the footballing food-chain seem inevitable. From early on in the window, Liverpool had him down as a top target.

And speaking to journalist Ben Jacobs via X yesterday, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber admitted that ‘everyone could see’ that Mac Allister was ready to leave the Seagulls.

“Everyone could see that Alexis Mac Allister, having won a World Cup, would want to play at the highest possible level that he could,” Barber explains.

Mac Allister ready for Reds journey

After a couple of slightly below-par displays, some have started to question Mac Allister a little at Liverpool. But, for us, that’s harsh.

It’s true that we could have perhaps expected slightly more from a player who already has a World Cup winners medal on his mantle-piece. The Argentine has been disappointing on occasion.

But it’s also worth pointing out that up until last Sunday’s game, Mac Allister had been an ever-present starter for Liverpool in the Premier League.

The Reds haven’t had a perfect season so far, but they’ve been a hundred times better than last season.

As a new player, making a big step up, coming into a brand new environment, Mac Allister deserves credit for his part in that.

Dominik Szoboszlai has caught the eye more, but the former Brighton man has kept things ticking, as well as providing the odd slither of magic.

As he becomes more used to playing for a top club, Mac Allister is only going to get better. Hopefully at some point we seem him released from the shackles of his holding midfield role, which should help too.

As Barber says, it was clear that Macca was ready to make that step up. It’s a process, but he certainly hasn’t looked out of place so far.

Keep it going Alexis, you’ll get there.
