Neymar’s club could now try to sign key Liverpool player at the end of the season

Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal could make a raid on Liverpool at the end of the current season.

Although there are Liverpool links to other Saudi Arabian sides, Al Hilal are the only one of the government backed quartet not to feature a former Red.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs though, that could soon be about to change. Writing in the Daily Briefing yesterday, Jacobs said that a certain Mohamed Salah is still of interest not only to former bidders Al Ittihad, but to the side of Neymar and Ruben Neves, too.

“Mo Salah remains a big summer target,” says the journalist, whilst reviewing the potential comings and goings in Saudi Arabia.

“There’s no guarantee it will be Al-Ittihad who return for the Egyptian. Al-Hilal is also a possibility.”

Saudis still in for Salah

After a nail-biting end to the transfer window in September, it has all gone a little quiet on Salah’s future.

But it’s perhaps fair to say that where his exit next summer once felt like a formality, there are no some welcome doubts starting to creep in.

Once again, Mo has shown himself to be an absolute key player for Liverpool. Despite now being 31, the Egyptian is showing no signs of slowing down. 12 goals in all competitions so far is testament to that.

Salah is well on course to hit his customary 30-goal haul and is seemingly still at the top of his game.

On the flip-side, the Saudi Arabian project barely seems to have gotten off the ground. After plenty of initial grandeur, teams are now playing in-front of tiny, tiny crowds.

It would appear that outside of the transfer window, few people in Europe are really all that bothered about what’s going on in the Pro League.

Of course, it is still early in the project and the threat of the Saudi clubs shouldn’t be diminished. But Liverpool will hope that this failure to launch will have opened Salah’s eyes to the prospect of staying at Anfield instead.

With 18 months still to run on his contract, there is no rush to decided what to do beyond 2025. But with it clear that clubs like Al Hilal are going nowhere, maybe Liverpool should force the issue with a new contract proposal. If they don’t do it, somebody else will.
