Mohamed Salah could now be leaning towards staying at Liverpool beyond the end of the season.
Salah was the subject of high-profile interest from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad over the summer, with Liverpool even rejecting a monster bid for their No.11.
Since then, the smart money has been on the Saudis returning with a second offer for Mo either next year or in January. As a result, plenty of Reds fans may have resigned themselves to the potential of this being Salah’s last season at Anfield.
But now, according to journalist David Ornstein, that may not end up being true after all. Taking part in a Q&A with The Athletic, Ornstein was asked if there has been ‘any noise’ on the Egyptian superstar’s future. His answer will be encouraging to Liverpool fans.
“No, other than I don’t think it’s set in stone he goes,” replied the journalist.
“I’ve even had some suggestions he would quite like to stay and continue to compete at the highest level in Europe. It’s a major decision for player and club, of course.”
Liverpool offered Salah encouragement
In some ways, it was good that the Saudi interest came – and of course was rejected – over the summer.
It prepared Liverpool supporters for the probability of their Egyptian King finally leaving the club in a year’s time. By and large, that has been the feeling amongst fans.
But with the Saudis routinely playing in-front of crowds of less than 1,000 people, perhaps things have now shifted a little.
Back in the summer, no one was quite sure how the Pro League project would go. With plenty of high-profile players heading over to the Middle East, some thought the league would soon rival its European counterparts.

While that could still be the case moving forward, it certainly hasn’t come to fruition so far. As every week passes, it looks more and more like going the way of the ill-fated Chinese Super League. Outside of the transfer window, is anyone really bothered?
A year ago, you can understand why an offer might have been tempting for Mo. But now, there should be some reasonable doubt. Moving from the Premier League to the Pro League will look like an admission that his career is on the decline.
Although Salah may still feel he’s happy to make that move, we think that the 31-year-old’s competitive spirit may just start to tip things.
If Liverpool can get back to their best and win a trophy or two this season, hopefully his appetite will be whetted enough to stay. It feels like the tide may just be turning. Mo might get his ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’ moment after all.
