Liverpool told they’ve got a 21-year-old youngster who has something unique

England U21 manager Lee Carsley has praised the quality of Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton.

Morton is once again doing well in the Championship this season, having joined Hull City on-loan from Liverpool on deadline day.

The 21-year-old has become a fixture in Liam Rosenior’s team, starting the Tiger’s last eight matches. Morton’s good form has seen him called-up for the England U21 fixtures next week.

And in quotes from the Liverpool ECHO, Carsley has indicated exactly why he’s brought the Liverpool prospect into the fold.

“Tyler’s a player that we know all about,” said the former Everton midfielder. “We had him involved with us last campaign. He’s a player we rate highly. It’s a difficult squad to get into and stay in. I think he’s a bit different to any other kind of players that we’ve got in terms of he’s a bit more defensively natural in that position.

“We’re quite an attacking team with a lot of players with an attacking mentality. I think Tyler can do that as well, but the way that (he plays) and the role that I see him playing for Hull, is a role we could use at times.”

Morton gets England call

Morton will be hoping to make his England U21 debut over the next couple of weeks, as he joins Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah in the squad.

It will be the next step in a career that looks like it could still reach the heights of Liverpool.

Two years ago, with the Reds gunning for the Quadruple, Morton made quite the impression on Jurgen Klopp.

Since then, a positive loan move to Blackburn Rovers last season has enhanced his reputation further. Now going well at Hull, Klopp will certainly be keeping an eye on his progress.

Morton’s form is all the more relevant to Liverpool because of what’s going on in their midfield at the moment.

When he has played for the Reds, the youngster has generally been playing as the deepest-lying midfielder.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’d know that this position is the biggest point of contention at Liverpool for the moment. Without a clear long-term defensive midfielder, there is a spot open.

For now, Stefan Bajcetic – or an new signing – look the most likely to fill that. But as the weeks go by, Morton’s reputation continues to grow. Don’t count him out just let. Good luck with the Young Lions, Tyler!
