Pundit claims Liverpool have ‘one of the quickest players in the PL’ in their midfield

Liverpool have one of the fastest players in the Premier League in midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai has been praised for the way he’s instantly lit up the Reds since arriving in the summer. But so far that praise has largely focused on his shooting ability, overall quality and athleticism.

But according to TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor, there’s another part of the Hungarian’s game that deserves attention, too.

Asked to rate Szoboszlai’s start to the season, the former England striker chose to focus on an underrated part of the 22-year-old’s game.

“I’m giving him an A. I love what he does in that midfield,” Agbonlahor raved. “He wants to get on the ball.

“He’s quicker than what people think as well he’s shown that this season – one of the quickest players in the Premier League.”

We’re not sure we’d go quite that far, but for a pretty big man, Dom can certainly move.

Without unnecessarily sticking the boot into players who won the lot with Liverpool, how nice is it to hear this said about a Reds midfielder.

Last season, the middle of the pitch could hardly have looked much slower.

Jordan Henderson was never an exceptionally pacy player but at 33, he often simply couldn’t keep up with the opposition.

The same could be said about Fabinho, who seemed to lose more than half-a-yard of speed between 2021/22 and 2022/23.

Thiago Alcantara meanwhile is not known for his pace, while James Milner and Naby Keita weren’t exactly speed demons, either.

There was a time earlier in his career when he was decidedly fast, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was no longer that player, too.

Now, Liverpool are a whole different prospect. Szoboszlai may be the quickest, but Ryan Gravenberch can’t be far behind. Alexis Mac Allister may be more in the Keita/Henderson/Ox pool for pace, but he’s much more mobile than any of that trio. What a difference a few months makes.
