Liverpool may very well be in the running to sign Jamal Musiala from Bayern Munich.
The Reds were yesterday surprisingly named as being possible contenders to capitalise on Musiala’s precarious contract situation in Munich.
Given the 20-year-old’s status as one of the game’s best young players, the link seemed a little fantastical. But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, there may be something in it. Writing in his Daily Briefing today, Romano confirmed that talks are yet to commence with Musiala over a new contract.
As a result, the transfer expert claims that Liverpool could be one of the sides watching on with interest.

“Liverpool have been linked with Musiala, but trust me it would not just be Liverpool, there are many important clubs around Europe keeping an eye on Musiala,” Romano reports.
“Jurgen Klopp knows the player’s talent very well, but also people at Chelsea, Manchester City, and clubs in Spain, because he’s one of the best young talents in world football. So this is normal, it’s not about negotiating, it’s just about following a top young player.
“In my personal opinion, he’s worth more than €100m; I’d compare him to Jude Bellingham – a generational talent. So of course Bayern absolutely plan to extend Musiala’s contract with an important proposal, and they will try also with Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies. It’s complicated, but still on.”
Liverpool keeping an eye on Musiala
This doesn’t really tell us a great deal more than yesterday’s initial report from Sport BILD did.
If Musiala were to come on the market, it’s quite clear that all the top teams in Europe would be after him. The Germany international really is that good.
From Liverpool’s perspective, bringing in a player like that would be a massive statement of intent.

But nevertheless, we simply don’t see this one getting off the ground.
As Romano mentions, pinning the youngster down to a new contract is a priority for Bayern. He may be young but he’s been one of their best players consistently over the past two or three years.
They do have a good relationship with Liverpool having traded Thiago Alcantara, Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mane between themselves in recent times.
So, if Musiala were available and the Reds stumped up the asking-price, that could make the difference. And yet, we reiterate, Bayern don’t want to lose him. We don’t see how this ends in anything other than the former Chelsea youth player signing a new contract.
