Liverpool want to sign ‘interesting’ forward who’s almost as fast as Leroy Sane

Liverpool are ‘definitely’ interested in signing Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.

Beier has had a superb start to the Bundesliga season, having arrived back at Hoffenheim from a two-year loan at Hannover.

Although he only scored 10 Bundesliga 2 goals across those two seasons, the 21-year-old already has four in seven games this campaign. And according to journalist Christian Falk for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, this has alerted Liverpool.

“Another name on Liverpool’s list is Maximilian Beier of Hoffenheim – I heard he’s definitely on the list, as he brings something that’s very interesting for Liverpool!” Falk reports.

“His high speed this season was 35.45kmph. It’s also really good for Germany; he’s the second-fastest German player behind Leroy Sane.

“His contract at Hoffenheim runs until 2025 and I heard he has a release clause; he’ll be a little bit more expensive for English clubs but for German clubs he’ll only cost €20m [£17.2m].

“So you see, Liverpool are looking around at the Bundesliga again.”

Liverpool looking at Beier

Falk has been really keen to push the idea that Liverpool sporting director Jorg Schmadtke will be shopping in the Bundesliga in 2024. He suggested as much once again today.

Meanwhile, the journalist has also claimed that the Reds could well be one of the sides lining up a move for RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda.

Openda will be familiar to Liverpool fans, having been excellent in France last year and now a full Belgian international. Beier, it’s fair to say, will be less familiar. And so, Falk has handily provided a breakdown of exactly what kind of player the youngster is.

“He’s a player you can educate, fast, can play as a striker as well as on the wings, which would be beneficial for Liverpool’s rotations in the forward line,” he says.

“I think he’s interesting. He could be the next German national player, perhaps not in the coming matches, but he’ll be in the national team. He’s not very expensive, which would fit into Liverpool’s business model. Keep in mind, though, that Brentford and Everton’s interest in the player is concrete.”

For the time being, you’d have to say that Beier’s experience level would suit him much more to a Brentford or an Everton. But perhaps Jurgen Klopp has seen something he can use to mould the German into a future star.

Interestingly, Liverpool have already been linked with a possible move for Leroy Sane, too. So, maybe we should also be keeping a close eye on anyone who can just about keep pace with him! Not many can, but Beier is seemingly one of them.
