Dominik Szoboszlai was impressed by Ryan Gravenberch on his first Anfield start for Liverpool last night.
Gravenberch lined up in midfield alongside Wataru Endo and Harvey Elliott against Leicester City, with Szoboszlai himself dropping to the bench.
The Hungarian still made the game’s most telling contribution, smashing home an unbelievable strike to put Liverpool into the lead.

Before that though, Gravenberch played his part, too. The 21-year-old cleverly assisted Cody Gakpo for the Reds’ opening goal of the night.
And speaking to liverpoolfc.com about the game generally, Szoboszlai was asked about the Dutchman’s contribution, as well as fellow new boy Endo.
“They played a really good game,” said Liverpool’s No.8. “OK, the result in the first half was not what we wanted, but it happens. The most important [thing] is the reaction, how we came out for the second half.
“We scored a quick goal, Cody, and as you mentioned, Ryan, Endo, [Jarell] Quansah, they played a very good game. That shows that we need everybody in the squad.”
Gravenberch quietly impresses
There was no question who the star of the show was for Liverpool last night. Although the evening was littered with good performances, Szoboszlai’s thunderbolt will take the headlines.
Nevertheless, there were other Reds players who will take a great deal from yesterday’s win.
Having made his second start for Liverpool – and his first at Anfield – Gravenberch is certainly one of those.

It wasn’t always an easy evening for the Dutchman. Like a couple in red, he didn’t start the game particularly well and still looks like he’s trying to work out exactly what is needed from him in the midfield.
But with Liverpool collectively improving after the break, Gravenberch started to stand out.
His pass into Gakpo for the equaliser was a lovely piece of skill. Flipping it quickly from his right to his left foot, the Netherlands international slipped a brilliantly disguised ball through to his countryman, who did the rest.
Coupled with his delightful assist for Luis Diaz at LASK last week, Gravenberch now has two goal contributions in two Liverpool starts. Given that he’s only going to get better, that’s a really good start. Onwards!
