Dominik Szoboszlai has earned some rave reviews for his wonder-goal against Leicester City tonight.

The Hungarian stunned Anfield with an absolute rocket of a shot to put the Reds 2-1 up against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

It was a goal that will have had Liverpool supporters up and on their feet from wherever they were watching. One man who was giving the goal the respect it deserved was Sky Sports pundit Robert Earnshaw.

Covering the game for Sky this evening, the former Wales striker stood to applaud what he’d seen from Szoboszlai.

“What a goal! What a goal this is, Szoboszlai!” Earnshaw exclaimed. “He’s just come on and hit a rocket into the top corner. Bravo, bravo Szoboszlai! 2-1 to Liverpool and what a rocket.

“This boy is very, very good, I’ve watched him in every game this year and he’s been brilliant and that just sums him up. Wow! Just wow!

“Let’s have a look at it about ten times because this is unbelievable. This is just brilliant technique. Just class, this is what he can do. So clean.”

Szoboszlai gets the crowd on their feet

You get the feeling that this won’t be the last time pundits and fans are salivating over a rocket from our No.8.

Szoboszlai moves with such assurance, such clarity on the ball, you just know he’s got more and more of those up his sleeve.

And what a time to get this one, too. No, it isn’t the biggest game Liverpool will play all season, but having dominated for so long against Leicester, the game was ticking into it’s final act.

Had the Reds gone into the final ten minutes or so at 1-1, it could have made for a really nervy ending and the lottery of a penalty shootout.

But from the minute Szoboszlai’s thunderbolt careered off the underside of the bar it was game over. It was game over because he had decided it was so.

It takes a special player to rock up at Anfield and make the No.8 shirt his own. For all that he did score a couple of similar goals to this one, Naby Keita could never quite manage it at Liverpool.

It’s early days of course, but Szoboszlai so far looks more than capable of stepping into that void. Earnshaw loved it, Jurgen Klopp loved it, Reds supporters across the globe will have loved it. What a goal, what a player.
