Liverpool fans gave a promising verdict after watching Ryan Gravenberch make his full Anfield debut this evening.
It wasn’t the best start to the evening for the Reds, with Leicester City taking an early lead in the Carabao Cup third round.
And after seeing their team go into half-time a goal down, fans weren’t quite sure what to make of Gravenberch’s performance.
Gravenberch grows into the game
But as the game went on, Liverpool’s new signing started to find his feet. Crucially, the Dutchman managed to find Cody Gakpo, who fired the Reds level early into the second half. It was a lovely assist from Gravenberch, his second in two starts now for Liverpool.
Picking up the ball from Wataru Endo on the edge of the Leicester box, the 21-year-old advanced towards the area. Quickly shifting it from his right to his left boot, Gravenberch flicked a neat ball through to Gakpo, who swivelled and stuck it in the corner of the net.
Until Dominik Szoboszlai stole the show with a screamer later on, it was Liverpool’s best moment of the game. And fans were suitably impressed.
Having already provided a beautiful assist for Luis Diaz at LASK last week, Gravenberch is showing just what he can give this Liverpool team.
It was by no means a perfect performance on Wednesday evening, but he played his part in bringing the Reds back into the game.
With his job done and a game still to win, Jurgen Klopp brought Gravenberch off with 25 minutes left on the clock.
Replacing him? Szoboszlai, who latched onto Endo’s clever forward pass to lash an unstoppable drive in off the bar and win the game. A brilliant night for Liverpool’s summer signings.
