Rival clubs could reportedly be hoping something goes wrong in Liverpool’s contract talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite how unlikely this outcome is.

According to journalist Neil Jones, negotiations between Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool are expected to go swimmingly, but rival clubs are still hoping for the Reds to bottle talks with the defender.

Interest is there in the 24-year-old defender, and with two years remaining on his current contract, Alexander-Arnold could have been available had Liverpool for some reason opted against renewing his deal.

However, Liverpool are now on the case, with the unbelievable’ fullback in talks to extend his stay at Anfield having been named vice-captain this summer.

Yet this hasn’t stopped rivals clubs from hoping for the worst, with Jones saying: “I don’t expect any hiccups in negotiations.

“Alexander-Arnold wants to stay and Liverpool want to keep him. There will be a lot of clubs hoping something goes wrong, but I don’t see it. Trent’s future lies at Anfield.”
