Luke Shaw has tipped Trent Alexander-Arnold to further develop his game in midfield next season, with the Liverpool man expected to start in the position tonight for England.
Speaking to TalkSport, the Manchester United defender lauded his Premier League rival after Alexander-Arnold put on a Man of the Match display for the Three Lions last week against Malta, where the Liverpool star started in midfield and wore the no.10 shirt.
Playing as the highest midfielder, Alexander-Arnold stole the show completely detached from his usual right-back position, and Shaw believes that the 24-year-old could make the role his own for Liverpool next season if the defender again impresses tonight.

Shaw said: “He is an unbelievable player, don’t get me wrong. He is so, so good. An incredible talent. When the ball is at his feet, then there aren’t many better than him. I think he has shown that. You never know, it might be the start of something new. It was his first proper game there (as a no. 10).
“I know he does it for Liverpool, but I think he was brilliant. For him now, it’s all about learning that role. A new role. I think he has the qualities and mindset to learn and understand the different roles he’s going to take. He is a fantastic player and one of the best in the world.”
Liverpool should listen to Shaw’s advice and play Alexander-Arnold in midfield

Alexander-Arnold flourished in his inverted fullback role for Liverpool at the end of last season, and with Gareth Southgate further pushing the process by playing the defender in midfield, the Reds should take on Shaw’s advice on playing the 24-year-old in the centre.
Against Malta, Alexander-Arnold controlled the show for England in what was a comfortable victory for the Three Lions. And for Liverpool, the defensive playmaker has all the qualities needed to become a superstar from midfield for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
