What has Jurgen Klopp said?

Doak and Bajectic are aged 17 and 18 respectively. Klopp gave youth a chance, and looking at the result it seems like it worked.

Their manager clearly has high hopes: “Oh yes, we have some young players who can achieve a lot more, oh yeah.”

Going behind in the game, potentially gave the German’s side a reality check.

Klopp is under no illusions about the challenge ahead: “I said I know that people expect us to fly through this competition. It will not happen.

“In the group stage, it will not happen, in the knockout, it will not happen.”

That is the mindset that the Red’s are going to need if they are to go deep into the competition.

The Liverpool boss believed changes could have been made to how his team played: “The opponent suffered much less than us, from the bad pitch than we did.

“If we could have used Ben Doak a little more often, give him the ball a little more. He could have had more even times on the touchline to cause problems.”

The winger has featured in the Premier League once this season. Starting in Europe regularly could be the springboard to realise his potential.

It wasn’t just Doak that Klopp was pleased with, however: “Stefan Bajcetic found a way into the game. After a rather difficult start, we caused them more problems with the timing of the passes.

Ryan Gravenberch played a super game he was decisive for us. While Harvey Elliott was excellent.”

A win in Europe, especially after being behind, is a positive and with so many positive youngsters coming through, it is an exciting time.
