Ryan Gravenberch was clearly delighted after signing for Liverpool from Bayern Munich yesterday.

According to his manager at Bayern, Thomas Tuchel, the 21-year-old had actually wanted to move to Liverpool ‘for a while.’

And after being announced as a new Reds player, Gravenberch took to Instagram to introduce himself to his new fans.

“Delighted to sign for this amazing club. It’s an honour to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” wrote the Dutchman.

There were plenty of familiar faces in the comments, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Sven Botman offering their wishes.

But one interesting commentor to note was Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs. The Netherlands U21 international posted a flame emoji, followed by a love heart.

Schuurs is a former Ajax teammate of Gravenberch’s and has been reportedly catching Liverpool’s eye for a while now. There were numerous reports linking the Reds with a move for the 23-year-old this very summer, but with the deadline now passed, he remains at Torino.

Schuurs still on Liverpool’s radar

Even though the transfer window is now shut, that won’t stop the rumour mill from spinning.

Liverpool have finally sorted out their midfield after a number of fallow years. But they didn’t do the business many felt they needed to in defence.

As a result, if this year was about the midfield, then you get the feeling that next year will very much be about the defence.

By next summer, Joel Matip will be out of contract and Van Dijk will be 33. Liverpool will potentially need at least two through the door.

So, having been a name doing the rounds for a couple of years now, Schuurs is one to keep an eye on.

He had an excellent season at Torino last year, having surprisingly joined them from Ajax in 2022. Another campaign like that will surely see him move on in 2024.

Schuurs comment to Gravenberch likely mean little, of course. But perhaps these two could be teammates once again, at Anfield this time.
