Everton could target Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, after persistent links with Liverpool.

The Reds have been rumoured to have Phillips on their midfield shortlist for a number of weeks in the summer transfer window.

But with Liverpool on the verge of signing Ryan Gravenberch, that now looks unlikely to happen. According to The i though, that could end up being good news for Everton.

They claim that the Toffees are making the Man City man an ‘ambitious’ deadline day target.

With City having confirmed the signing of Matheus Nunes from Wolves, Phillips looks set to be even further down the pecking order.

As a result, The i claim that the 27-year-old will be allowed to leave the Etihad today.

While Liverpool fans may not have been too enamoured with the idea of Phillips joining them, he surely would be a great signing for Everton.

Having been called into yesterday’s England squad, he’s perhaps got one eye on Euro 2024. Question marks have regularly been raised about Gareth Southgate’s consistent selection of Phillips, despite his lack of game time at City.

But while Southgate can perhaps just about get away with that for now, it will be harder to justify if the former Leeds United man spends another season barely playing.

Consequently, maybe a move to join Everton’s relegation battle will be an enticing prospect for him…
