Wataru Endo is set to join Liverpool on the back of some glowing reviews from those who’ve watched him play.

Endo looks likely to complete a move from Stuttgart later today. It isn’t quite the midfield signing Liverpool fans had expected, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

And according to journalist Neil Jones, Reds fans should be excited. Speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday, Jones shared what he’d found out about Endo, after digging around for information on the 30-year-old.

“It’s a signing which has come from left field,” began the journalist. “I have spent the last few hours last night speaking to people about this guy and what what he’ll bring to Liverpool and there was a common consensus.

“He’s a defensive midfielder first and foremost who excels in the defensive aspect of the game.

“He is a hard runner, a tackler, someone who wins his duels and battles, he’s strong. I was told he’s surprisingly good in the air for his size, he’s under six foot and that lends itself to the fact he has played as a centre-back for Stuttgart and Japan.

“I’m told he’s pretty reliable on the ball over short distances and has a good fighting spirit.”

Endo ready for Liverpool journey

With everything we now know about Endo, he sounds to have the making of a real Liverpool cult hero.

If he can hit the ground running and do well, the Reds fans will take him straight to their hearts.

That’s what seems to have happened at Stuttgart, where the Japanese international has gone from barely playing to captaining the side in less than three years.

Of course, it takes more than sheer hard work and effort to make it as a Liverpool player. Endo will have to display that he’s got the quality to make it at Anfield, too. But he does seem to have that as well.

It must be said that it is a step up from playing for the sides Endo has in his career so far to playing for Liverpool.

Stuttgart are a huge club with a massive following in Germany, though. Captaining his country is clearly something that comes with great expectation, too.

So, Endo is well-versed in the demands needed to be met in order to succeed at the highest level. He sounds like the kind of player Liverpool are lacking right now and we can’t wait to see what he brings to the team.
