Jurgen Klopp is looking to add the finishing touches to his squad prior to the transfer window drawing to a close, and young Belgian attacker Johan Bakayoko is reportedly in his sights.

According to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink, the Reds are one of the sides who have inquired about the financial conditions under which Bakayoko can be signed – he is a highly sought after prospect given his impressive start to the season.

Plying his trade for Eredivisie side PSV, the 20-year-old has made four appearances already this season. Two of those have come in the form of Champions League qualifiers against Sturm Graz where he has already registered two assists.

Capped four times by Belgium, the youngster scored on his international debut in March this year during a 3-0 victory over Sweden. He has since gone on to feature against Germany, Austria and Estonia, the latter of which he played the full 90 and provided an assist.

The right winger spent time with several academies during his younger years, namely OH Leuven, Club Brugge, Mechelen and Anderlecht, before PSV swooped in.

He made his debut for the club last year and has now racked up 41 appearances in total, scoring and assisting seven apiece.

Bakayoko also boasts experience of winning having lifted the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup, both on two occasions, in the early stages of his career.

There has been so much focus on Liverpool’s search for a holding midfielder that the need for additions elsewhere on the pitch have gone under the radar.

Who else has been linked besides Bakayoko?

Wataru Endo is set for a medical today, whereas Joao Palhinha, Cheick Doucoure, Ryan Gravenberch and Sofyan Amrabat have all been heavily linked to the Reds in the past 24 hours.

It is refreshing to see Klopp’s side now approaching a forward addition, especially a talent such as Bakayoko who is seemingly a top prospect for the future – the type of clever signing that Liverpool might need should Mohamed Salah be tempted by Saudi Pro League proposals next summer.

This story is still fresh, so nothing imminent is expected, though things can rapidly progress as we witnessed with the Endo deal yesterday evening.

Should this deal develop, it could be a very shrewd addition to Liverpool’s squad for years to come.
