Dominik Szoboszlai was reportedly listening to ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as he flew to England to sign for Liverpool.
That’s the claim from Newcastle-based outlet Chronicle Live, who say that Szoboszlai always had his heart set on a move to Anfield.
The 22-year-old was heavily linked with joining Newcastle United following their qualification for next season’s Champions League. But it’s claimed that the Magpies were never given any encouragement that Szoboszlai wanted to join them.

Instead, the Chronicle report that he was determined to be a Liverpool player, pointing to his choice of in-flight song as evidence of the fact,
More evidence is that Szoboszlai’s agents continually ‘batted away’ questions from Newcastle. They are instead claimed to have had their ‘minds focused’ on getting their client to Anfield.

Szoboszlai gets dream Liverpool move
Often when you look back on transfers after the fact, you can see signs that they were inevitable.
Szoboszlai’s recent comments about working under Jurgen Klopp, for example. It isn’t completely out of nowhere that a player would declare his intention to play for Klopp, he’s one of the best managers in the world. But little known to us, it was a sign of things to come.
We often don’t find these things out, but it seems likely that there were conversations going on with Liverpool even then.

To Szoboszlai’s credit, it appears that he wasn’t even interested in speaking to any other club.
Again, looking back, this feels obvious. It surely isn’t a coincidence that Liverpool waited until the last days the Hungarian’s release clause was active to make their bid to RB Leipzig. They knew he’d picked them already and were trying to get a lower price.
In fairness to Leipzig, they didn’t budge. And with the Reds likely already given their word to Szoboszlai that they would come in for him, they couldn’t risk the fee getting bigger.
Thankfully, this story had a happy ending. It’s great to have players on board who are desperate to play for the club and in Szoboszlai the Reds have got themselves a real talent to boot.
