Newcastle United are reportedly in talks to sign RB Leipzig superstar Dominik Szoboszlai, who recently admitted that he wants to play for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

According to Newcastle World, the Magpies have begun negotiations with the Hungarian international as Eddie Howe looks to sign two world-class midfielders this summer, with Newcastle already closing in on a deal for AC Milan star Sandro Tonali.

As per the report, Szoboszlai has a release clause of £61m, a fee that Newcastle could easily match. Yet the Toon face competition for the 22-year-old, with 90min recently claiming that Liverpool have scouted the versatile playmaker in Leipzig’s Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.

Moreover, Szoboszlai has publically said himself that he would love to play under a manager like Klopp, a quote that could indicate that the former RB Salzburg star wants to move to Liverpool this summer and to make a name for himself at Anfield.

Indeed, whilst Szoboszlai could have been a great fit at Liverpool, it now looks like Newcastle have taken a commanding lead in the race to sign the Hungarian superstar, with Howe’s side ready to explode in the transfer market in the weeks to come.

Szoboszlai would have been quite the coup for Liverpool in both the short and long-term, yet with Newcastle now in the driving seat, it is a shame that the Reds couldn’t have attempted to make the playmaker’s Klopp dream become a reality this summer.

As we know, the Hungarian is clearly a big fan of Klopp and his work at Liverpool. And although a move might have been financially unviable for the Reds, there will always be those who would have wanted the Anfield side to push the boat out to sign Szoboszlai this summer.
