Liverpool player about to have conversation with Jurgen Klopp, could decide whether he leaves

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is set for talks with Jurgen Klopp which will determine his future.

Talk is rife that the Reds could unbelievably be about to lose Henderson, with a massive offer from Saudi Arabia giving him serious pause for thought.

The exact nature of the contract proposal hasn’t yet been confirmed. There had been reports that Henderson could be set to bank as much as £700k-a-week in the Middle East. However, The Guardian are more conservative in their estimations, claiming that the offer would double the England international’s £200k-a-week wages.

Plenty of people could perhaps see why this would be attractive to Henderson at the back end of his career. But it’s reported that talks with Klopp scheduled for this week could still persuade Liverpool’s skipper of eight years to stay.

The key topic of conversation will reportedly be Henderson’s prospects of first team football next season. With new signings now at the club, the Reds’ No.14 could well be set for a reduced role.

What Klopp says on the matter is said to be likely to shape whether the captain decides to leave.

Henderson set for Klopp talks

From our point of view, this is a bit of an easy out from Henderson. After a poor season last year and new signings brought in, it’s quite clear that he’s no longer first choice in the midfield.

At 33, that shouldn’t be a hard one to get his head around. Last season wasn’t good enough and he has to take accountability for that.

As captain of the club, you’d hope that Henderson could take that decision on the chin and work hard for the best of the group.

Instead, it seems as though he’s ready to jump ship at the first opportunity.

Whatever the great things he’s done for the club over the years, that would be an incredibly sad way to end things. We can’t imagine Klopp will see things differently, either.

The Reds boss has often spoken about having everyone committed and on the same page. If Henderson is showing signs that he isn’t, then Jurgen surely won’t stand in his way.

Many will argue that Hendo has earned the right to leave on whatever terms he likes, and maybe that’s true. He has been ‘brilliant’ over the years. But this really doesn’t feel like the way. If Jurgen does push for him to stay though, maybe it isn’t over just yet. It all rests on this.
