Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has cut his summer holiday to just a week as he works on his fitness.

Trent had a mixed season last time out. After struggling for much of the year at right-back, a move into an inverted midfield role brought out the best in him towards the end of the campaign.

And according to The Times, the 24-year-old is doing his utmost to come back in his best shape ever. Alexander-Arnold has reportedly spent the last two weeks focusing on improving his speed and endurance at a camp in Portland, USA.

Work at the camp is said to have included mountain hiking and cycling at altitude. It’s supposedly a ‘departure’ from Trent’s previous off-season schedule, with the England man recognising he has a big season ahead.

Alexander-Arnold won’t be with the eight-strong group set to report for pre-season training tomorrow. But when he returns with the other internationals on Tuesday, he’s reportedly hoping to hit the ground running.

Good man, Trent!

While hiking and biking in Oregon sure sounds like a holiday to us, you’ve got to admire the sentiment behind Trent’s work.

He could have easily taken his time doing absolutely nothing throughout the summer. After the most challenging season of his career so far, he might have felt like he was ready for that.

Some may point out that he actually looked like he was on the beach for most of 2022/23, anyway. But few could have blamed him for getting away somewhere exotic to recharge his batteries.

Instead, Alexander-Arnold has obviously recognised that he needs to up his game next season. It’s this mentality which sets him apart from most of his peers.

Fingers crossed that the work pays off and Trent comes back in the best shape we’ve ever seen him.

Coupled with his change in position, that could be something that sets Liverpool apart this season. No more excuses, the lads look hungry and the additions so far have been quality.

No matter who may come in though, Alexander-Arnold will remain key to the Reds chances of doing anything good in 23/24. Thankfully, he sounds like he’s up for the challenge.
