Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is seeking assurances over playing time before deciding his future.

Thiago has been linked with a move away from Anfield, after the Reds brought in a pair of new midfielders. Thankfully, it looks like the Spaniard is keen to remain at Liverpool for the time being.

But according to Calciomercato today, that may be dependent on one or two things. They claim that the 32-year-old is looking for clarification from Liverpool as to his role next season.

After the Reds signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago reportedly wants to know how Jurgen Klopp plans to use him. Although he’s happy for now, the suggestion is that this feeling could still change.

Once he’s spoken to the club, the Spain international will then make a decision over his future.

In the meantime, it’s claimed that Reds legend Steven Gerrard tried to sign Thiago for Al Ettifaq. However, Liverpool’s No.6 is said to have turned down that approach.

Thiago looking for Liverpool clarification

As well as Szoboszlai and Romeo Lavia, Thiago is becoming one of the big stories of the week at Liverpool.

If anyone further is to leave the Reds this summer, then it feels likely that it’ll be him.

Nevertheless, the feeling for now is that Thiago will stay. Despite the new additions, there’s an argument that the former Bayern Munich man is still Liverpool’s best midfielder.

When fit, what he brings to the team is without question. Put him in a new and improved midfield with good legs around him and you’ll surely see Thiago start to purr again.

Throughout his time at the club though, he just hasn’t been able to stay fit for long enough. There’s only so long you can carry an injury-prone player. Especially when he’s reportedly taking home £225k-a-week [Salary Sport].

As a result, it would feel a little rich for Thiago to be seeking clarification on his role. He’s always had a key role whenever possible. If he’d stayed available, he still would have.

In all likelihood, he still does anyway. On paper Liverpool have a lot of midfielders now. But when it comes down to the nitty-gritty of the season, all of them will play their part. Thiago included. Fingers crossed he and the club can get on the same page.
