Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with reported Liverpool target Micky van de Ven over a move to North London.
Van de Ven has been seen as one of the defenders most likely to join Liverpool this summer. However, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now swooped in.
“Tottenham have included Micky van de Ven on their shortlist for the new centre back alongside Edmond Tapsoba as both are appreciated by the club,” Romano wrote on Twitter this morning.

“Talks already took place for Wolfsburg’s Dutch centre back represented by team Raiola.”
With Liverpool also said to be in for Tapsoba, this could get interesting. Your move, Reds!
Spurs provide competition for Van de Ven
With Van de Ven so impressive for Wolfsburg last season, there was always likely to be interest in him. His agent has already publicly confirmed as much.
At the reported £26m price-tag, the Netherlands U21 international could also be a real bargain in today’s market.
So, it’s understandable that Liverpool wouldn’t be given a free run at Van de Ven.

Nevertheless, if it’s a straight shootout between the Reds and Spurs, you’d still fancy Jurgen Klopp’s project to come out on top.
Tottenham may have a new manager in Ange Postecoglou, but they’re not an especially attractive side right now. Out of European competition next season and in danger of losing their star man, they’re not in brilliant shape.
Liverpool may not have Champions League football to offer, but they do have one of the best managers in the game and a squad stacked with world-class talent.
The one thing going for Spurs is that they’ll probably be able to offer Van de Ven a starting spot straight away. Liverpool definitely won’t. So, if the Reds have genuine hopes of signing the Dutchman, then this could be a blow. Let’s see if they’re forced into speeding up their own attempts.
