The agent of reported Liverpool target Micky van de Ven has admitted that the defender could leave Wolfsburg this summer.

Van de Ven has been installed as a player of real interest in Liverpool’s active search for a new defender. The 22-year-old has seen his reputation enhanced after an impressive season in Germany.

Now, speaking to Wolfsburger Allgemeine Aller-Zeitung, the centre-back’s agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez has suggested that the phone has been ringing off the hook for Van de Ven.

“Micky has played a fantastic season. There are many clubs that are interested,” Rodriguez says. “It would be stupid to say now that he will definitely stay in Wolfsburg. Anything can happen this summer.

A player like Micky, who has developed so well – the calls from the clubs come automatically. I am asked: What is the situation? Do we have a chance? As I said, anything can happen this summer. It could be that he leaves. But if the right club doesn’t come along, why shouldn’t Micky stay in Wolfsburg?”

Van de Ven speaks out on interest

If Liverpool really are looking for a centre-back this summer, then it looks likely that Van de Ven is one of the primary targets.

There were strong links with the likes of Goncalo Inacio earlier in the year, but they’ve gone a little quiet for now.

At the moment, the Netherlands U21 international is the only name being mentioned with any real gusto.

Part of that is actually down to himself and his agent, mind you. As well as Rodriguez coming out with some telling words here, Van de Ven himself has recently been stoking the possibility of a summer transfer himself.

If we were fans of the Lower Saxony side, then we probably wouldn’t be all that pleased with some of the noises coming from the 22-year-old and his camp. There’s always a danger players get carried away when away with national teams in the summer, and Van de Ven is perhaps guilty of that.

His agent has clearly briefed him that some top clubs have been on the phone asking about him. With rumours that Bayern Munich, along with Liverpool, have his name in their lists, maybe that’s just gone to his head a little.

Either way, now is the time to focus on the actual football again. Van de Ven will captain his team as they begin their Euro U21 campaign against Belgium this evening. Do well there, and maybe Liverpool will advance their interest. Rodriguez might soon be getting another call.
