Borussia Monchengladbach are crossing their fingers that a bid arrives from Liverpool for Manu Kone this summer.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for Kone in recent weeks. Latest reports indicate that talks between the player’s agents and Liverpool have been underway for a a little while. However, those conversations are yet to turn into anything more concrete.

According to journalist Christian Falk in his column for CaughtOffside today though, Gladbach are still holding out hope for an offer to take Kone to Anfield.

“In the case of Manu Kone, Gladbach want over €40m [£34m] for the midfielder and are still hoping for an offer from Liverpool,” Falk reports.

“Paris Saint-Germain can still be considered as an interested party, whilst Aston Villa and Wolves currently have an outside chance of securing a deal.”

Kone not a priority for Liverpool

The way things are looking, we wouldn’t put too much money on Gladbach getting their Kone wish granted.

Liverpool may be speaking with the 22-year-old, but he doesn’t appear to be a top priority for them.

Instead, his France U21 teammate, Khephren Thuram looks like being the man the Reds will hang their hopes on.

Nevertheless, Liverpool obviously do very much like Kone. Mark Schwarzer has called him ‘phenomenal’ and for his quality and potential, Gladbach’s asking price seems very reasonable indeed. This could turn out to be important.

With Nice reportedly holding out for a big fee in order to sell Thuram, the former Toulouse man could be a cheaper alternative.

Of course, it isn’t out of the question that Liverpool go all in for both Thuram and Kone. The two are great friends and would come with ready-made chemistry.

If they don’t pull the trigger on Kone though, it looks likely that he’ll be leaving Gladbach anyway. Should Wolves, Aston Villa or PSG end up getting him, Liverpool may soon be made to regret their decision.
