Liverpool moving to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is still a possibility this summer.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. The transfer expert took to his YouTube channel early this morning to address rumours of Barella being brought to the Premier League.
“At the moment Inter have not received any official bid from Newcastle [for Barella],” Romano explained. “It’s also important to say about this deal that Inter will not sell the player for £50m, this is not the case. We heard rumours about Chelsea. They are informed on the player but the reality is that Chelsea are only focused on [Moises] Caicedo.

“On Barella I would also keep an eye on Liverpool. Because Liverpool have always been following the player. Jurgen Klopp has always been a big fan of Barella. And so, let’s see what happens at Liverpool.
“We know they’re now busy with Khephren Thuram, with Manu Kone, Gabri Veiga. They are speaking to agents of many midfielders because they will sign at least another important midfielder this summer, but they’re also informed on the situation of Nicolo Barella.
“Clear to say that Barella is, we know, a big Inter fan, has a long term contract at Inter, he’s very happy at Inter and Inter are very happy with Barella. So when you see that proposal, £50m for Barella, this is almost impossible. But, in case of a crazy proposal we have to check and see. But at the moment the situation is still quiet despite many, many rumours.”
Liverpool still in Barella chase
Liverpool have been linked with Barella plenty of times in the past. But never has the transfer guru himself, Mr Fabrizio Romano, lent any weight to those suggestions. Now, he has.
In fairness though, Romano does still suggest that a deal looks pretty unlikely to happen.
Barella is clearly quite settled at Inter and doesn’t have any real intention to leave. Coupled with his reported £75m asking price, there seems little hope of him moving to Anfield.

And yet, as long as the links continue, the hope will remain.
As Liverpool assess all their options in terms of rebuilding their midfield, Barella would be a dream signing for many supporters. The Italian in a midfield alongside the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and potential new-boy Khephren Thuram would certainly be eye-catching.
Even the tiniest prospect of that happening will have sent a certain segment of fans into a frenzy.
For us though, we just really can’t see this one coming off. Liverpool look to be searching for value for money in their signings this summer, and with a big price on his head, Barella is anything but that.
Italian players have also generally tended to be poor travellers to the Premier League. It would be super if Barella could buck that trend at Liverpool, but we won’t be holding our breath.
