PL club director says Liverpool have an excellent player who’s been ‘in the shadows’

Brentford technical director Lee Dykes has praised Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, suggesting he should be playing more.

Kelleher has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer, with Brentford named as a potential destination for him. With David Raya looking set to depart the Bees, they could be on the hunt for a new goalie.

So, with Dykes appearing on The Beautiful Game podcast this week, the show’s Liverpool supporting hosts took the chance to ask him his thoughts on the Irishman.

“Kelleher is a good goalkeeper, there is no doubt in that,” the Brentford man replied. Asked whether the Liverpool stopper had ‘popped up on the data,’ Dykes remained tight-lipped.

“He is a good goalkeeper,” he said, a wry smile on his face. “He’s not played a lot of games obviously, he’s been in the shadows a little bit at Liverpool.”

Kelleher to emerge from the shadows

Judging from Dykes’ visible reaction the questions on Kelleher, you can certainly see that the Reds ‘keeper is of interest to him.

And why shouldn’t he be? As the director points out, Caoimhin is indeed quite clearly a very good goalkeeper.

Not being utilised at Liverpool, he has the potential to kick his level up a notch or two if given the chance to play regularly. To that end, the Ireland international has actually been told that Brentford would be the perfect place for him.

Unfortunately – or maybe fortunately – though, Brentford have already signed a new ‘keeper this summer. Mark Flekken arrived at the end of the season, seemingly to take over from Raya.

Considering there have been reports that the Bees feel Kelleher’s price to be ‘unrealistic,’ maybe this shouldn’t be a surprise.

So, as he assesses his next move, perhaps Brentford are no longer an option for the 24-year-old. From his point of view, hopefully that doesn’t put a transfer in jeopardy.

Because one thing’s for sure where Kelleher is concerned, if he doesn’t end up getting his move, he’ll continue ‘in the shadows’ for as long as Alisson Becker at Liverpool.
