Liverpool player told to leave and sign for Brentford this summer

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been told that he’d fit in perfectly as a Brentford player.

Kelleher could be on the move this summer, as he looks to establish himself as a top level No.1. With that desperately unlikely to happen at Liverpool anytime soon, Brentford have been rumoured to be in for the Irishman.

And according to former Republic of Ireland international Keith Treacy, the Bees could be the perfect team for the Reds stopper. Speaking to RTE, Treacy talked up the prospect of Kelleher moving to West London.

“There are options [for Kelleher]. I think Brentford would be a match made in heaven,” said the former midfielder.

“I think under Thomas Frank, they have this learning ethos that nobody gets on anybody’s back when they make mistakes and I think Caoimhin would really thrive in that sort of situation.”

Kelleher searching for the right move

In fairness, Treacy probably has a point here. With Brentford set to lose first choice goalkeeper David Raya this summer, they’re in need of a new No.1.

With the kind of football Frank likes to play, you can see Kelleher fitting in quite well.

Unfortunately though, the Bees look like they’ve already filled the gap expected to be left by Raya. Dutch ‘keeper Mark Flekken has already been signed from Freiburg.

So, perhaps Treacy can cross them off as a potential destination for Caoimh. Unless he wants to battle it out for the first choice post at another club.

Elsewhere, Brighton are another side to have been mentioned in connection to the Ireland international. They’re a team in need of an upgrade between the sticks and Kelleher would fit their tendency to buy young players with potential to be sold on for profit.

Otherwise, it’s hard to see a spot really for Kelleher in the Premier League. The Spurs post is open, but on his showing at Southampton on the last day of the season, he isn’t ready for something like that. Not yet.

So, perhaps it really is the best option to continue his development at Liverpool for another year. With Europa League football booked in for 23/24, he should get more game time than he has this season. The wrong move could be far worse than no move for Caoimhin, he should remember that.
