Caoimhin Kelleher is reportedly now expected to leave Liverpool this summer despite pleas from Jurgen Klopp for the Republic of Ireland international to stay at Anfield.
According to the Athletic, the 24-year-old is ready to depart Merseyside to become a first-choice goalkeeper at another top club, though Liverpool are keen to keep Kelleher with the Reds viewing the Irishman as the best backup option between the sticks in the Premier League.
The Athletic have previously reported that Liverpool are commanding a transfer fee as high as £20m for Kelleher. Yet with the shot-stopper eager to move on, there is every chance that the Cork-born talent could be sold at a much cheaper fee.
Whilst Klopp has publically stated that he wants Kelleher to stay, the decision could soon be out of the Liverpool manager’s hands if the Irishman takes matters into his own hands. And this latest update might see some activity in regard to the 24-year-old.
Indeed, Kelleher is at a stage of his career where he should be playing regular football. And with Alisson Becker coming off one of his best seasons yet with Liverpool, a sale could be for the best even with Klopp eager to keep hold of the Irish international.

Klopp’s reasoning for wanting Kelleher to stay is a justified one, with the shot-stopper proving himself as the perfect backup keeper for Alisson and a talent who could become one of the best in the world with the right development. However, a move this summer would be best for all parties.
As we know, Liverpool would make straight profit through the sale of Kelleher. And with the player himself keen to prove himself as a no. 1 at another club, Klopp might soon have to concede defeat and allow his backup keeper to leave Anfield for good.
