Everton striker Neal Maupay has suggested that he could soon be neighbours with reported Liverpool target Khephren Thuram.

Over the last week, Thuram has emerged as a real option for Liverpool in the transfer market. With talks reportedly open between the Reds and the Frenchman, we could well see him at Anfield very soon.

And now, in an interview with French show GymTonic, Maupay has perhaps added some more fuel to the fire.

Asked about the emerging talent that is Thuram at his former club OGC Nice, the Everton man made a claim that will prick the ears of Liverpool fans everywhere.

“He’s a great player. We could be neighbours soon,” said the 26-year-old. Interesting!

Liverpool pushing for Thuram signing

Clearly, this isn’t a definitive admission that Thuram is joining the Reds. Although he’s a former player of theirs, there’s no suggestion that Maupay has any idea of the inner-workings at Nice right now.

Being a few years older than Thuram, he also has no personal history with the Reds target. They haven’t played together before. There’s no reason he’d be privy to the 22-year-old’s next move.

It could also be that Maupay himself is hinting at a return to the South of France. Things haven’t gone well for him at Everton and maybe he’s angling for a move back to his former side.

Whatever the reason for Maupay’s words, it’s clear that Liverpool do indeed hold genuine interest in Thuram.

With Alexis Mac Allister now set to sign from Brighton, Jurgen Klopp will move on to adding another body to his midfield.

Although yesterday brought claims that it will take an ‘explosive’ offer for Nice to sell Khephren, a figure of around £53m has previously been mooted. That isn’t a bad price for a player who has an enormous amount of potential. Well within Liverpool’s price range you would think.

Anyway, should the Reds push ahead with things, it sounds like Thuram will have a ready-made estate agent primed to show him the ropes!
