Chelsea might not be signing Manul Ugarte but they could still make a move for one of Liverpool’s top summer transfer targets.

The Blues looked to have sewn up a deal to sign Ugarte over the weekend. As we know, the Uruguayan was on the Reds’ list of targets head into the summer. But it now looks like PSG have won the race after putting together a huge financial package.

And now, according to The Guardian, Chelsea are expected to bid for another Liverpool target in the form of Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea to bid big for Moises Caicedo

The Guardian reports how the Blues are now expected to press on with their pursuit of the Brighton star. A number of clubs, including Liverpool, Arsenal and more are known admirers of the Ecuadorian star.

But with Ugarte now off to PSG, it does seem Chelsea are going to ramp up their efforts to land Caicedo.

Brighton are looking for at least £70m for Caicedo. They rejected a huge offer from Arsenal in the January window but are now expected to be sell the South American.

As we know, Liverpool are also close to signing Caicedo’s teammate, Alexis Mac Allister. The Argentinian midfielder is set to complete a move to Anfield in the coming weeks.

RTK’s View: Caicedo was always going to be a bonus

Given we are close to completing a deal for Mac Allister, it was always going to be an added extra for us to bring in Caicedo as well, especially with so much interest from elsewhere.

Caicedo would actully be brilliant in this Liverpool team. He has everything a modern midfielder needs and he appears to tick the boxes of what we’ve seen Klopp require in recent seasons as well.

Obviously, it looks like we’re going to have to make do with just the one Brighton star. Caicedo will likely star for Chelsea if he moves there.

Hopefully, Mac Allister does the business on Merseyside and it won’t matter too much.
