Alexis Mac Allister and his agents are set to meet with Brighton today as he closes in on a move to Liverpool.
The World Cup winner looks likely to be Liverpool’s first signing of the summer. A move appears to be imminent. There look to be a few important details left to sort though, and to that effect, Argentine reporter German Garcia Grova Tweeted this afternoon that a meeting has been set between Mac Allister and his current club.
“Meeting Alexis – Brighton in the next few hours,” Grova wrote just before 1pm today. “Mac Allister’s agents will put the proposals on the table. Liverpool is the firmest and most advanced.”
Mac Allister set to meet with Brighton
With Brighton having now confirmed their Europa League status for next season, things should hopefully move along quickly with Mac Allister.
It would look to suit all parties to get a transfer arranged and announced as soon as possible.
For Liverpool, they’d get the first piece on the board in what is set to be a pretty massive summer overhaul. Mac Allister himself would see his future sorted and have a full summer to prepare his arrival at Liverpool. Meanwhile Brighton have plenty of time to sort out a replacement for one of their best players.
The only sticking point so far is seemingly that Chelsea are lurking around the corner. There is a slight concern that with the move not yet finalised, Mauricio Pochettino will try to lure Alexis to London. In fairness, why wouldn’t he? The 24-year-old has been ‘unbelievable’ this season.
Mac Allister has reportedly set his goal as playing Champions League football in the future, though. With neither Chelsea nor Liverpool in the competition in 2023/24, the Reds are surely the more likely to make that happen next time around.
So, all signs point to this one getting boxed off soon. Fingers crossed the meeting between Mac Allister and his current employers ends with everyone in agreement that he’s heading to Liverpool.
Either way, after today’s meeting, we’ll surely know soon enough.
