Jamie Carragher was left impressed after watching reported Liverpool target Declan Rice in action last night.

Rice played the full 90 minutes as he captained West Ham United to a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar. The win put the Hammers into the Europa Conference League final, where they’ll meet Italian side Fiorentina.

It was obviously a proud moment for Rice, who’s been linked with a move to Liverpool. And taking to Instagram with characteristic energy after the game, he celebrated a big night for his club.

“Prague here we come babyyyy!!!” wrote the 24-year-old.

Carragher was a notable face in the comments, the Liverpool legend showing his appreciation with two ‘praise’ emojis for Rice.

Liverpool like what they see in Rice

As the summer transfer window hurtles into view, Rice is really putting himself in the spotlight. Obviously he hasn’t dragged West Ham to a European final on his own, but he’s a big reason why they’re heading to Prague next month.

His good performances have led to an almost inevitable feeling that he’ll be on the move this summer.

Over the last several months, all of the Premier League’s big boys have been said to be eyeing Rice up. Even Bayern Munich have been credited with more than a passing interest in him.

Predictably, this has led to the shutters going up a little from West Ham. It’s been claimed that the Hammers will demand at least £100m to let him leave the London Stadium [ESPN]. Woof.

As things stand, we can’t see any way at all that the team who ends up paying that will be Liverpool. Someone might eventually buckle and cave in to West Ham’s demands – Rice might be worth it to some extent – but surely, surely it won’t be the Reds.

Nevertheless, the links and flirtations have continued. Just last week, Neil ‘Razor’ Ruddock urged the England international to move to Liverpool to become the ‘next Steven Gerrard’.

It would be nice, and Carragher clearly thinks so too. But we just can’t see how this one gets off the ground. We’ll have to continue to admire Rice from afar.
