Reported Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister has been nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Year award.
The Reds have reportedly set their sights on Mac Allister after an excellent season with Brighton. And it looks like they’re not the only ones to have been impressed with his displays this year. As per Sky Sports Premier League on Twitter, the Argentine is one of eight nominees for the YPOTY award.
In truth, Mac Allister will do well to win this one, though. His 10 goals and one assist has made the 24-year-old a stand out in a superb Seagulls side, but when Erling Haaland is your competition, that isn’t going to cut it.
The Manchester City forward has had a ridiculous debut season in the division, breaking the all-time scoring record for a campaign. He’ll surely scoop this one.
If not, Mac Allister’s Brighton teammate and fellow Liverpool target Moises Caicedo may be a contender. Arsenal trio Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard are also nominated, along with Newcastle United’s Sven Botman and Alexander Isak.
Liverpool pushing for Mac Allister
It’s a shame to see no Liverpool representation on the list this year. But the Reds can hardly claim to be disappointed with that. No one eligible for the Young Player award deserved to be anywhere near it.
Mac Allister did, though. As Jamie O’Hara said earlier this year, the Brighton No.10 has been ‘fantastic.’ And although twenty-four always feels a little old for this award, he should be delighted to have been recognised.
He’ll be too old to be considered next season, but maybe in Liverpool colours he can aim even higher?

We know, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. But as things stand, Mac Allister is looking more and more likely to be in Jurgen Klopp’s squad in 2023/24.
Latest reports claim that Liverpool are ‘confident’ that the Argentina international will join them in the coming months. Having put the legwork in on the player’s side already, all that’s seemingly left to do is to agree a fee with Brighton.
Obviously, this is easier said than done, with the Seagulls demanding extortionate prices for their players. It could also be that another side swoops in and trumps Liverpool yet.
But for now, all the noises indicate that this move could well happen. As his nomination today shows, that can only be good news. The Reds would be getting one heck of a player.
