Jurgen Klopp believes that Liverpool signing Alexis Mac Allister would help to ease the pain of missing out on Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool were widely reported to have installed Bellingham as their priority in the transfer market this summer. However, having spent literal years plotting a move for him, they ultimately found themselves priced out.

But they can’t afford to feel sorry for themselves, Klopp has a midfield to reinvent. And to that end, The Mirror report this evening that Liverpool have identified the man to banish all thoughts of Bellingham. According to them, Alexis Mac Allister is that man.

The report claims that the Reds are ready to ‘end the race’ for the Argentine by securing a £70m deal with Brighton. Mac Allister himself is also said to be ready to ‘commit his future to Liverpool,’ having reportedly dismissed interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

Furthermore, Klopp is thought to be delighted with the deal. Seeing it hurtle towards a conclusion, the Reds boss is claimed to see Mac Allister as ‘ample compensation’ for missing out on Bellingham.

Not only Mac Allister for Liverpool

There’s quite a lot to unpack in this exclusive article from The Mirror this evening. As well as the Mac Allister stuff, they also confirm that Liverpool are favourites to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea.

Given the copious reports of that nature, that’s hardly ground-breaking stuff. But what’s interesting is that a deal to take Mount from Stamford Bridge to Anfield is said to be coming in at ‘around £50m.’ Not the £70m that’s previously been reported.

However, any transfer for the 24-year-old is said to need the ‘green light’ from incoming Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Finally, Liverpool are reported to have ‘made an enquiry’ for Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni. Unfortunately though, the Spanish giants don’t want to lose him.

Now, if Liverpool could get all three of the players mentioned here, that would more than make up for losing out on Bellingham. Mount and Mac Allister as a pair may do too, although the Chelsea man has his critics.

But Mac Allister by himself, as good as he is, is not an appropriate swap for the generational Dortmund man. The World Cup winner would be a super little addition, but he isn’t the statement of bringing one of World football’s burgeoning superstars to Anfield.

Still, we’re delighted to see this one moving forward. £70m sounds a lot to pay, but Mac Allister is a little gem of a player. Onwards.
