Reported Liverpool target Aurelien Tchouameni will get the final say on where he’s playing next season.
After initially holding discussions with Liverpool last year, Tchouameni ended up joining Real Madrid in a £68m deal. But things haven’t worked out so swimmingly in Spain, with the 23-year-old not playing as big-a role as he might have hoped.
This has reportedly seen him become a little unsettled at the European Champions. As a result, Spanish outlet Cuatro claim that Jurgen Klopp has once again ‘asked’ for Tchouameni.

Liverpool are said to be hoping to take advantage of the France international’s lack of minutes for Real. In order to get their former target at the second time of asking, the Reds will reportedly go ‘all out’ to land him this time.
It’s claimed that this won’t fall in-line with Madrid’s plans for Tchouameni, though. They supposedly don’t want to lose him at all. However, Cuatro suggest that they may not have the decisive choice in the matter. Instead, the last word will reportedly lie with Tchouameni himself.
Tchouameni deal not looking likely
It’s hard to see exactly why Real Madrid would allow Tchouameni to leave against their will. They’re probably the most powerful club on the planet. If they want him to stay, then he stays. As an ‘exceptional’ talent, why would they not want to keep him?
The one solution where it might be plausible that the Frenchman leaves is in a loan deal. That would give Tchouameni the chance to develop and get minutes, with Madrid still retaining ownership of him and reaping the rewards of said development down the line.
Surprisingly, this has been reported as a scenario Liverpool may be comfortable with. So keen are they to get Tchouameni to Anfield, they’re said to be happy enough to take him on-loan.

Given that Liverpool don’t tend to deal in loan moves generally, that would be a major surprise. The only way you can imagine Reds fans being on-board with that is if there were a buy option worked into the contract.
Anyway, we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Regardless of anything, there’s no suggestion that Tchouameni even wants to leave Madrid at all.
He’s just won the Copa del Rey and could potentially still end the season as a Champions League winner. Yes, he isn’t playing minutes and may have to compete with Jude Bellingham next campaign, but is that enough to want to leave?
Regrettably, we just can’t see it. And the latest reports suggest that Liverpool can’t either. Unless they get some firm assertions that Tchouameni is keen to go ahead with this, it’s best to leave it and move on to other options, of which there are plenty.
