OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram has been advised that a move to Liverpool would be brilliant for his progression.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Thuram as they look to bolster their midfield this summer. Given the 22-year-old’s talent though, they’re not the only ones in the hunt to sign him. But according to French football expert Johnathan Johnson, a move to Anfield would be better than, say, joining Chelsea right now.

“We’ve seen Chelsea linked with three French midfield players in the form of Adrien Rabiot, Manu Kone, and Khephren Thuram ahead of this summer,” Johnson wrote for CaughtOffside.

“With top young talents like Kone and Thuram, who are looking for European football and who are likely to have other clubs in for them, it doesn’t really make sense for them to jump to a club like Chelsea, where playing time isn’t guaranteed and where there won’t be the chance to play in Europe next season.

“When you think that Kone could also have interest from PSG and Thuram’s being looked at by Liverpool and Newcastle, these would probably represent better moves for them to continue their progression.”

Steer clear of Stamford Bridge

For any player on the planet, joining Liverpool would probably make more sense than joining Chelsea at the moment. In fact, joining near-enough any club would be better than rocking up at Stamford Bridge.

Sure, Chelsea is always an attractive prospect. They’ve got a very good squad and will soon have an excellent manager no doubt. But right now, they’re a basket case.

As Johnson points out, they won’t have European football next season. With an already bloated squad and an uncertain future under a new coach, why would any top player want to go there. Especially one as young and talented as Thuram.

At this moment, Khephren has the world at his feet. Having just broken into the France international squad and reportedly valued at a reasonable £53m, he could have his choice of clubs.

But as Chelsea circle, he’d be wise to look at the story of Enzo Fernandez. It’s still very early days for Enzo in West London, but he and the team as a whole have struggled since his January arrival. Having pushed so hard for Benfica to allow him a departure in the New Year, the Argentine may now he regretting his decision a little.

Had he waited six months, Fernandez would have had his pick of Europe’s elite clubs. With the Blues having fallen out of that category for the time being, players like Thuram may now be wary of following in his footsteps. Listen to this advice Khephren, come to Liverpool!
