‘Fantastic’ player starts as Klopp drops £35m man: Liverpool’s predicted XI vs Fulham tomorrow

There’s no let-up for Liverpool as they take to the field for their third game in a week at Anfield tomorrow.

This time, Fulham are the visitors, as the Reds aim for a fifth Premier League win on the spin. Unsurprisingly, that would be the first time Liverpool have achieved such a feat in the competition this season.

Now in fifth-place, it looks unlikely that they’ll rise any higher between now and the end of the season. But all the Reds can do is win their games. Here’s the XI we think Jurgen Klopp will send out to do that on Wednesday night.

Defence

Alisson Becker hasn’t been as imperious for Liverpool of late. The Reds may have won the last four, but the Brazilian has not kept a clean sheet in any of them. He’ll be hoping to change that tomorrow.

At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold is having no such lean spell, bagging six assists in his last five games. Andy Robertson has also been productive of late and both will continue their respective new roles tomorrow.

The first change comes at centre-half. With Klopp’s admission that he’s managing the minutes of £35m man Ibrahima Konate, we expect to see Joel Matip back in the line-up. After a difficult season, the 31-year-old was somewhere near his ‘fantastic’ best at West Ham last week. Let’s hope we see that version of Matip tomorrow.

No change on the left of the back two, with Virgil van Dijk continuing his run in the side.

Midfield

Klopp made an unexpected change to his midfield on Sunday, with Harvey Elliott coming in for Jordan Henderson. As the Elliott experiment didn’t really work at times against Spurs, we expect the skipper to return for this one.

Elsewhere, we can’t see why the manager would change Fabinho or Curtis Jones. Both have been good of late, with Jones bagging the goal his performances have deserved to open the scoring against Spurs.

Attack

After his momentous goal on Sunday, Liverpool would love to count on Diogo Jota again. But unfortunately, it looks as though the 26-year-old has picked up a knock to rule him out of this one.

So, it’s likely that Klopp instead sticks with things as they are. Luis Diaz was good before tiring against Spurs and deserves the chance to kick on and build his fitness.

Meanwhile Cody Gakpo was arguably the Reds best player without getting on the scoresheet himself. He should go again, too.

As ever, the final, right-sided slot in the Liverpool forward line will be filled by Mohamed Salah. Darwin Nunez may feel he has a case but just at the moment, there’s no need to change things. He’ll have to wait.
