Liverpool have identified OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram as a possible fit for their midfield overhaul.
That’s according to The Independent today. They claim that Jurgen Klopp is now targeting at least two midfielders having ‘missed out’ on Jude Bellingham.
Klopp will reportedly try and sign several players who have energy, running and an ability to carry out his tactical plans. With that in mind, assessments of Thuram are said to have now installed him as a prime candidate.
He isn’t the only player on Liverpool’s list this summer, far from it. The Reds are said to have ‘thoroughly researched’ all options available to them, with four other names put forward by The Independent.
Interestingly, the other players are all from the Premier League. Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount, Fulham’s Joao Palhinha and Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister are reportedly among the names ‘being looked at.’
Thuram still on Liverpool’s list
In the months leading up to the transfer window, Liverpool have been linked with a relatively consistent group of midfielders.
There have been a wide variety of players with differing playing styles mentioned. But throughout, there has been a group of around a dozen or so who feel like viable candidates.
Thuram is one of those and would be an interesting signing for the Reds. He may not be the ready-made option that some others would, but the 22-year-old obviously has a lot to offer.
Rumoured to be valued at around £35m, the France international wouldn’t break the bank for Liverpool. Although they’d be paying largely for potential, he could easily soon be worth double that if he progresses as expected.
Perhaps it isn’t a coincidence that these links to Thuram have solidified today. The Nice man is a similar looking player to Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch.
After reports that Bayern won’t entertain the sale of Gravenberch have emerged, Thuram could easily be an alternative. He maybe wouldn’t be our first choice, but we’d sooner see him join than Gallagher or Palhinha, for sure.
