Liverpool want to sign two players from the same PL club, they’re preparing talks – Romano

Liverpool are preparing to speak to Brighton about signing either Alexis Mac Allister or Moises Caicedo this summer.

Reds fans were rocked last night upon hearing the news that the club have pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham. But according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool still have plenty of other irons in the fire in regards to midfield signings.

Speaking on his YouTube channel earlier today, Romano shared the names of four such options for Liverpool. Predictably, both Mason Mount and Matheus Nunes are named as being ‘on the list.’ More interestingly, the journalist reports that Liverpool have their eye on a couple of super players at the same Premier League club.

“Liverpool want Mason Mount as one of the targets,” began Romano. “Matheus Nunes has always been appreciated, but at the moment I’m told that there’s nothing agreed and he’s not a top priority for Liverpool. He’s one of the names they have in the list.

“I’m also told that Liverpool are keeping an eye on Brighton. They are doing excellent, they have a top coach, a top board and are doing an excellent job. Players like Mac Allister and Moises Caciedo are two players appreciated by Liverpool. So, in their list there is also the possibility to speak to Brighton for one of their midfielders. So, Liverpool will be busy with midfielders but probably also other positions – centre-back, maybe full-back and something else.”

Liverpool recalibrate after Bellingham failure

That’s it then. Liverpool have moved away from the prospect of signing Bellingham. It will be interesting to see who now fills the 19-year-old’s spot as the Reds top target.

Early signs indicate that it would appear to be Mason Mount. But he and Bellingham are very different players. Liverpool will surely have someone else in mind as their ‘quick-fix’ midfield signing.

It’s still early days in that respect – it is only mid-April after all. From reports last night and so far today though, there appears to be a clearer picture forming.

Putting Mount aside, it would seem that Caicedo and Mac Allister are very high up on Liverpool’s shortlist. Nunes is a player who has been constantly linked, but the Wolves man now appears to be a secondary option. Elsewhere, Nicolo Barella, Ryan Gravenberch and Declan Rice have the look of three players who could fill that ‘Bellingham role.’

Barella or Rice would have the feel of a marquee signing. Meanwhile Gravenberch is a player of huge potential despite a disappointing year at Bayern Munich.

Obviously, any or all of the above would be an upgrade on what Liverpool have now. A combination of two or three of these players would fix a lot of the Reds’ problems pretty quickly. With a few new faces arriving though, it would makes sense to bring in two players who know each other well already. Unfortunately, we can’t see Brighton letting both Mac Allister and Caicedo go at the same time. But you never know.
