Liverpool believe that the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea this summer could represent an absolute bargain.
The Reds have been routinely linked with a move for Mount as he maintains a contract stand-off with Chelsea. And speaking to TeamTalk today, journalist Ben Jacobs has reiterated that Liverpool’s interest is ‘genuine.’
Not only does the 24-year-old reportedly fit their profile of player, Jacobs also suggests that the price could be very attractive to Liverpool.
“Liverpool’s interest is very genuine, and Mount is exactly the kind of player that fits their profile,” said the journalist.
“And for the price that he will be available at if he doesn’t sign with Chelsea, that will be deemed to be a bargain. That is why Liverpool are one to watch over the coming months.”
Liverpool serious about striking Mount bargain
By the sounds of Jacobs’ quotes today, Liverpool are safely ahead of Manchester United in the running for Mount.
The journalist does indicate that United would be keen to sign the England international. But with their priorities lying primarily in signing a No.9, the Reds chances are said to be ‘more concrete.’

That doesn’t mean that Liverpool will have a free run at Mount, though. According to Jacobs, Newcastle United are also very much ‘one to watch’ this summer.
With the Magpies looking to pip the Reds to the last Champions League spot, their threat should be taken as a credible one.
But if Newcastle are the only other option, then Liverpool should still fancy their chances. There have been claims that Mount would cost around £50m from Chelsea. We’ve got to be honest, that doesn’t sound like a huge bargain.
Knock it down another £10m or £15m though – which does feel possible – and they could have just found the signing of the summer. Watch this space.
