What Jurgen Klopp is going to say about Jude Bellingham at his next press conference

Jurgen Klopp will come out in full support of Liverpool’s decision to walk away from the signing of Jude Bellingham.

News broke on Tuesday evening that the Reds have decided to end their pursuit of their No.1 transfer target. Shedding a little more light on that this morning, The Telegraph outline three reasons as to why Liverpool made that call.

In amongst it all, they also give a little colour around Klopp’s expected response. They claim that it’s ‘understood’ that the Liverpool boss will ’emphasise how hands-on and on-board he is with the club’s transfer strategy’ when asked about Bellingham at his pre-Leeds United press conference on Friday.

It’s suggested that although Klopp has ‘no control’ over setting the Reds’ budget, no one has more say in how that budget is spent.

That’s bound to go down well among the fanbase. Good luck with that, Jurgen!

Liverpool score huge Bellingham own goal

Klopp has always been a manager who has worked in symbiosis with Liverpool owners FSG. Very much unwilling to rock the boat in regard to a lack of squad investment, he’s put up with more than many would.

Clearly, this can be a good thing. The German’s talent for diplomacy is part of what has made Liverpool a very stable club since his arrival. If manager and ownership are at loggerheads, it usually only ends one way. Despite this terrible season, the last thing we need now is Klopp walking out.

But on the other hand, Reds fans shouldn’t be afraid to demand a little more from their manager.

Bellingham has always been the clear top target for this summer’s rebuild. Klopp himself has even spoken avidly about the 19-year-old a number of times. For the 55-year-old to then seemingly accept the decision not to pursue him without a fight is incredibly disappointing to say the least.

According to The Telegraph though, there wasn’t all that much Klopp could have done in this scenario. The reasons given for Liverpool saying no to Bellingham are: They’re not sure Jude will actually leave Borussia Dortmund this summer, they’re sceptical whether he’d choose a move to Anfield anyway and the Reds can’t afford to buy him and fund a wider rebuild.

Arguably, the third point lands at Jurgen’s feet. Aside from that though, you can understand why Liverpool would be reluctant to get into a drawn out saga for Bellingham with such a need to rebuild elsewhere. But after all this hype, there’s no getting away from the fact that this is a huge own goal for the Reds. Whatever Klopp says about it, it won’t change that now.
